CERAMICS

Ceramics

I first encountered my passion for ceramics at secondary school and was immediately hooked by the malleable substance of clay which offers endless possibilities in expressing creativity; This passion has stayed with me and I was lucky to get the opportunity to resume pottery classes in 2017 with the most brilliant tutor, Colin Jones of High Ridge Pottery.

Each piece is slab built using stoneware clay which is then decorated using oxides, slips and glazes to add pops of colour. I choose to work with stoneware clay as the clay vitrifies during firings at high temperatures, making the pieces suitable for outdoor as well as indoor placements.

Forest Dwellers...

This collection is inspired by the beautiful New Forest and surrounding areas.  These are the beings and elementals I imagine live in the forest; you know that feeling you get, when you go for a walk and feel a presence, but there is no one in sight! Well, if you are very quiet and still for long enough you may just catch a glimpse of a forest dweller!

Stories that are Yet Unwritten...

In 2022 I started to sculpt characters for this collection, whilst authors create characters to inhabit their stories, I create ceramic characters for stories that are yet unwritten. The artwork is presented as a prompt for the audience, who are invited to participate in the creative process by adding their own narrative.
